My Featured Journal Entries
"And just like that I am writing my last weekly CEO journal. At the beginning of the year, I could not imagine how quickly this program would have gone. I have learned so much over the past eight months that has given me such a great foundation for my adult life. Whether it is learning different business concepts, practicing communication skills, or discovering how amazing my county is, this program has given me so much. I don’t think I understand yet how much I have received in this year. I believe that in the next few years, and as I start my career, I will have CEO to thank for such an incredible set of skills. While this year wasn’t all rainbows and butterflies, I am so happy that I decided to apply for this program last spring. I could not imagine a better way to spend senior year."

"Dan Remenga might have been my favorite day of CEO ever! I thoroughly enjoyed the trading exercise we conducted. Dan’s energetic personality makes his presentations quite lively! The day was also educational. I learned a great deal about the idea of subjective value, and how a free market society fosters this idea. The ability to choose in our market increases the value of goods and services to consumers. Dan also helped me put into perspective the pricing for my products. I need to think about what it is that I am offering my customers that is a better alternative to what they had before. How do they perceive the value of my products?"

"Jennifer Vahling’s presentation, Fake It Until You Become It, was very thought provoking. Prior to her presentation I had heard that how we think can change how we feel physically. However, it was interesting to learn that how we carry ourselves physically can have an effect on how we think about ourselves. Just by confidently standing, or sitting, we trick ourselves into thinking we are more successful, powerful, or smarter than we really are. So why not do this until you actually become these things?"

"The story of Candle Art’s rise to success is very inspiring. I commend the owner, Phil Niemerg, for his tenacity to turn a hobby of his into a business. Not many people would quit their steady job to start a candle company. However, one can see that Phil enjoys the freedom he has to make his own decisions and work creatively as an entrepreneur."

"One of my classmates this week made a great point about CEO. He said what is neat about this experience is that we get to hear so many people’s stories. Whether they are business owners, employees, or an athletic trainer, getting to hear local people’s successes and failures really helps us to have an even deeper appreciation of our community. This week we heard some very special stories, and I am looking forward to hearing more next week."
